Requirements
Do six activities including the one starred to complete this Badge.
1. *Learn the Signed Alphabet and know your name.
2. Teach someone the Signed Alphabet so they can spell their name. Try and spell a minimum of 15 different words to each other.
3. Invite an interpreter to your meeting. What do they do? How can you become an interpreter? Find out what the interpreter likes or dislikes about their job. Ask him or her about anything you are curious about.
4. What are the different types of languages used by deaf people and the hearing impaired? Give examples.
5. What types of communication technology are available to help deaf people during their everyday lives? How are these things different from what you use?
6. Research to discover interesting or famous people who are deaf or hard of hearing. How has their hearing impairment both helped and hurt them during their lives.
7. Do deaf people drive? Do their cars have adaptations or accessories? Do they have special tests to get their license?
8. Learn how deaf people play sports. How is it different from how you play sports? Find out about the Deaflympics Games that are held every four years.
9. Go to your local library and check out books on deaf people. What interesting things did you learn? Draw a poster about some of them.
10. Attend a play/program that is interpreted for the deaf. Discuss what you saw, felt, enjoyed or disliked about an interpreted performance. Talk to the interpreter after the program if possible.
